Geneva “Genny” Kohler
June 26, 1943 - September 16, 2024
Geneva "Genny" Kohler, known affectionately as "Honey" to her family, passed away peacefully after a series of seizures and complications related to Parkinson's disease. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Genny lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to education, family, and social justice.
Genny was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Addie Ossi and Ruth Mausert-Mooney. She is survived by her three sons, who were the light of her life: David (married to Teresa), Brian (married to Kari), and Jason. She also leaves behind four adoring grandchildren: Iris (16), Nora (12), Olive (10), and Ian (8), who will forever cherish the memories of their grandmother's silly antics and loving nature.
An accomplished English professor, Genny dedicated her career to inspiring students at Burlington County College in New Jersey before retiring. Her passion for literature extended beyond the classroom, as she was a voracious reader throughout her life. Genny also had a great love for cinema and cherished the time she spent with friends and family.
Throughout her lifetime, Genny was a strong advocate for civil rights, fighting for equality and justice. Her commitment to social progress was matched by her fierce dedication to environmental causes, working to protect and preserve our planet for future generations. These passions were integral to her character and inspired those around her to take action and make a difference in their communities.
A testament to her strength and resilience, Genny was a breast cancer survivor. In her later years, she relocated to the outskirts of Boulder, Colorado, where she embraced the beauty of her surroundings and continued to create lasting memories with her loved ones.
Genny will be remembered for her wonderful self-deprecating sense of humor, her ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures, and the boundless love she showered upon her children and grandchildren. Her legacy as a mother, grandmother, educator, activist, and friend will continue to inspire all who knew her.
